Hearing Voices

Around 13% of people hear voices – let’s talk about it! It is difficult to explain what it is like to hear voices, particularly if you have never heard voices yourself. However, the experience of hearing voices is not as alien as it is generally thought to be. Hearing voices is an experience that at least 13% of the population have at any one time so it’s actually more common than being left handed (10%) and having red-hair (2-4%). It is strange really that we have decided to pathologise voice hearing given the number of people who will hear voices and not find it at all distressing or something to be worried about. A famous doctor and two service users shared their unique experiences at an event to launch the new, exciting group - 'Bolton Hearing Voices Group'
